Charles Ray Ewick

Posted: September 2nd, 2009

This week i lost a dear friend - C. Ray Ewick.

Our relationship started years ago while I was a young consultant and he was the Indiana State Library Director.  Over the years our relationship grew to much more.  He was a mentor, a confidante and most importantly my friend.  I will miss him.

Charles Ray Ewick, 71, of Greenwood died August 29, 2009 at Greenwood Village South. He was born on September 13, 1937 in Shelbyville, IN a son of Laurel and Lorraine Tufts Ewick. They precede him in death. He married Joann Hotchkiss on June 14, 1958 in Shelbyville. She survives.

Other survivors include 2 sons David Ewick of Southfield, MI and Jeff Ewick of Greenwood, 1 brother Robert Ewick of Indianapolis and 1 sister Barbara (Ewick) Boger of Monmouth, NJ, 4 grandchildren and 9 nieces and nephews.

Mr. Ewick graduated from Shelbyville High School and from Wabash College with a B.A. in liberal arts in 1961. He then received a Master of Library Science degree from Indiana University in 1965. Mr. Ewick enjoyed reading, singing, traveling and he especially enjoyed his family. He was a librarian and a director at the Indiana State Library. He was a member of Southport Presbyterian Church, was president and treasurer of the residence council at Greenwood Village, was president of COSLA and received the Sagamore of the Wabash award 5 times by 4 different governors.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Greenwood Village Library Memorial Fund, 295 Village Lane, Greenwood IN 46143 or to the American Cancer Society 5635 W. 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278.

We have recently completed the design and construction documents for a new student center at Anderson University.  The University Center will be a 85,000 square foot LEED accredited facility that will include several dining options, large conference facilities and new spaces for student gathering.  Construction of the facility is anticipated for completion in the Fall of 2010.  This has been another great project for us with both Anderson University and krM Architecture+.

This will be a technology rich facility that will incorporate numerous technologies within the dining spaces and throughout for students and visitors alike.  We have been working creatively with krM Architecture+ to incorporate the desired audio/visual elements.  Additionally, a wireless environment along with cell phone boosters will be provided to ensure complete connectivity coverage.  The designated student meeting room will allow us the opportunity to exercise our creative technology aspirations.  At the moment we are fine-tuning the details of an interactive wall.

Stay tuned as the exciting new facility takes shape!

Videoconferencing is here!

Posted: March 12th, 2009

To enhance our project collaboration efforts we have recently added a Polycom VSX7000 videoconference system to our conference room.  One of the coolest components of this system is called a Visual Concert.  This accessory provides connectivity to a computer so we can share drawings, presentations, images, etc. during a design planning session with the client or architect.  This presents a very effective tool for reviewing plans and overall communications related to a project.

As we continue to expand our geographical boundaries the videoconference capabilities will assist our efforts and reduce travel expenses.  We look forward to working with you through this virtual tool in the near future.  If you are interested in connecting with us or testing your system contact me and we can make the appropriate arrangements.

Indiana Legislative Session

Posted: March 6th, 2009

I was recently afforded the opportunity to spend time at the Indiana Statehouse during the legislative session with Jason Shelley, AIA Indiana Director and Diana Brenner, Brenner Design.  It was truly a great experience.  One of the highlights was discussing HB 1620, energy efficient buildings, with Representative Matt Pierce from Bloomington.  Rep. Pierce authored this bill that would require a government building to be designed and constructed to achieve or exceed the level of energy efficiency under required under certain rating systems.
